Granny, 95, in court over theft in Nairobi, Kenya
She is most likely the oldest suspect to ever step in a Kenyan court and many feel awful about that.
A woman aged 90 was arraigned in a Nairobi court on Thursday charged with allegedly stealing Sh900,000 which is equivalent to more than USD10,000.
The accused is said to have defaulted on rent payment.
The old woman ,Esther Nyambura Wachira spent the night at the police station but after appearing in court she was released on bond and is now required to appear in court whenever required.
She denied that on diverse dates between January 2000 and December 2014 at Masterways Properties Ltd, jointly with another before court, they stole Sh900,000 rent money for a plot in one of Nairobi’s city estates.
While in court, Wachira sat among remand prisoners supporting herself with a walking stick as she waited for the charges to be read.
He directed the case to be mentioned on July 30 after it emerged that there were two files which needed to be consolidated before a trial date is fixed.
