The Senegalese U-20 football team is expected to be rewarded heftily after reaching the semifinal in their first ever world cup at that age group competition in New Zealand last month.

The performance of the young Teranga Lions was a welcome relief for fans in a football mad country where the senior team has failed to live up to expectation despite boasting world class talent.

The recent results also giving fans hope for the future of Senegalese football. Two of Diambars football academy students were part of the young team.

The director of the footbal academy in Senegal’s Saly believes the success at youth level owes to the many football academies across the country which are giving the youth an avenue to develop their skills at an early age.
