US boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been stripped of the WBO welterweight belt that he won from Manny Pacquiao in May.

The five-weight world champion failed to pay the World Boxing Organization a 200,000 dollar sanctioning fee before the 3rd July deadline.

After unifying the WBO, WBA and WBC welterweight titles, Mayweather said he would be giving up all three of the belts.

Mayweather’s compatriot Timothy Bradley now becomes full belt holder, after his win over Jessie Vargas.

A statement from the WBO said that the World Championship Committee had no other option but to “cease to recognize Mayweather as WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title.”
