Uganda police examining Al-Shabaab video threat
Police in Uganda are examining a chilling video with a massage allegedly posted by calling on jihadists to launch attacks against Uganda and Burundi.
The video posted on YouTube was titled, “the final message of the Kampala warrior”
The new video released depicts an unmasked Al-Shabaab man calling for Jihad-inspired attacks on Uganda and Burundi; as well as publicly calling for independent actors to join the movement in Somalia.
The two countries make up the biggest contingents of African Union troops fighting in Somalia under AMISOM.
In a statement posted on Facebook by CP Fred Enanga the Press and Public Relations Officer of police, the threat has no specific information about what might be planned.
He added that the security and intelligence community is continuing to gather credible information on the general threat.
”We therefore, take seriously any potential threats and respond appropriately by implementing extra security precautions, some of which are visible to the public and wrong elements, while others are invisible.
We are also working closely with the public especially crime preventers, while encouraging the community members to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station, LC official or other security officer. With such improved vigilance among the public we shall achieve ultimate victory over those who would want to harm us.”
The new state of alert comes two months after the United States issued a terror alert for Uganda as a potential target for Shabaab militants.
Uganda has been targeted by Shabaab after President Yoweri Museveni sent troops under African Union peacekeepers battling Shabaab militants in Somalia.
Meanwhile,Al-Shabaab fighters armed with machine-guns and rocket-propelled grenades attacked two towns in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region, culminating in the capture of the two neighboring districts of Awdhegle and Mubarak, witnesses and combatants said.
