South Africans dominate ATU African Championships

186 athletes from 32 countries took part in the 2015 African and Pan Arab Triathlon African Championships, which was held over the weekend.

The Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh hosted this year’s edition as South Africa continued their domination of the sport in the continent.

Henri Schoeman won the men’s elite competition, followed by four of his countrymen. Likewise, Gillian Sanders won gold in the women’s elite race in front of three of her team colleagues.

Bahrain’s Taour Abdel Nour emerged top among Arab competitors in the Under-30 race. This was his first participation in a regional tournament. Despite South Africa’s strong performance organisers are convinced that the gulf between them and other African countries is narrowing
