South Africa’s top sprinter handed two year ban for doping violation

South African sprinter, Simon Magakwe has been handed a two year ban for failure to submit to doping control.

South Africa’s athletics body, ASA, said, in a statement that the 100m record holder will be out of competition until January  2017 making him ineligible for the Rio Olympics.

Several months ago, Magakwe refused to give a urine sample when approached in an out-of-competition test.

Athletics world governing body the IAAF treats this as a doping offence.
