Egypt prosecutors have pressed murder charges against 379 people over the deaths of policemen and civilians during a bloody dispersal of Islamist protest camps back in 2013.
The charges are related to clashes that happened after Morsi was toppled in a military coup led by Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the country’s current president and the then head of the armed forces, on July 3, 2013.
The charges are the latest in a string of mass trials in the country relating to the violence that toppled Islamist president Mohammed Morsi. Prosecutors charged the defendants with taking part in an armed sit-in and in armed marches that saw civilians targeted in several parts of Cairo
