16 soldiers killed in attacks in Sinai

Egyptian forces have been fighting a faction affiliated to the Islamic State group, known as Sinai Province.

In yet another terror attack on the African continent, at least 5 soldiers have been killed in Egypt’s restive Sinai Peninsula, following two ambushes by armed men.

According to Egyptian security officials, gunmen opened fire on soldiers with automatic rifles and rockets at checkpoints in Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah.

At least 11 other soldiers and several civilians were wounded in the early Thursday attacks bringing the total of those killed to 16.

Reports from local Egyptian media allege that at least 15 armed men were also killed by the Egyptian military forces, during the attacks.
