Rafah border re-opens for two days

Read < 1 minute

After 50 days of closure, Egypt opened the Rafah-Gaza border today. The terminal was shut after the bombing in the Sinai Peninsula in October killed 30 soldiers, and has since been reopened three times.  This gesture takes place after a political visit of Islamic Jihad delegation to Egypt in an attempt to mend rifts between Egypt and Hamas after an Egyptian court declared Hamas a terrorist movement.

Dozens of Palestinians with humanitarian needs were allowed to cross into Egypt while Gazans who had been stranded for weeks on the Egyptian side of the border were allowed to return home.
