Zuma & Mugabe to Boycott EU – Africa Summit

Read < 1 minute

South African President, Jacob Zuma will not be attending the 4th European Union & African Union Summit scheduled to take place in Brussels on 2nd and 3rd April 2014. Zuma will instead be represented by his International Relations and Co-operation Minister. A storm has been building across the continent over the contentious invitation list to the meeting. Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe called for a boycott of the meeting after his wife was refused a visa to Belgium, prompting Mugabe to pull out of the meeting as well. Mugabe himself was only invited to Brussels after the African Union said it would boycott the meeting if he was not allowed to travel. A number of African leaders have also threaten to boycott the meeting saying that Europe was letting organizational matters stand in the way of important issues.
