Another five people have been arrested over a deadly train crash last week that left 25 people dead in Egypt’s capital, Cairo.
This brings the number of those arrested to 11. Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek announced the new arrests over the incident at Cairo’s main railway station, which triggered a huge explosion that left about 50 people injured.
Those arrested face charges of manslaughter and damaging public property.
Previously, an investigation determined that a fight between two train conductors left the train unattended causing the crash.
But the February 27 accident triggered an online debate among Egyptians, with many blaming President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi’s government for not improving railway services in Egypt, even after a series of deadly accidents.
The country’s Transport Minister Hisham Arafat resigned after the incident.
