Moroccan security authorities seized 380 kg of cannabis in the central city of Marrakech, police said in a statement.

The banned narcotic was packaged in 15 bags and found near a highway connecting Marrakech to Casablanca, it added.

A suspect aged 46 was arrested for his alleged involvement in the possession and trafficking of drugs.

On January 23, the Moroccan police seized 3 tonnes and 382 kg of cannabis in the northern city of Nador.

Despite efforts to crack down on cannabis cultivation during the past decade, Morocco remains one of the world’s largest producers of the narcotic plant, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
