2 killed as fire razes nightclub in Kenya’s Kisumu city
At least two people have been killed in a fire that razed a nightclub in Kenya’s western city of Kisumu, police say.
According to local media, the fire started at 4AM local time (01:00GMT) on Wednesday, and by 8AM firefighters were still battling flames amid fears of more revellers trapped.
The fire brigade pulled out the two charred bodies from gutted rooms of the club.
Kisumu county police commander John Kamau said four people were safely evacuated from the building. Others successfully escaped the fire after jumping out through windows.
Many people are reported to have been left with injuries after making the daring jump.
Local Daily Nation newspaper reports that the cause of the fire that razed Dream City nightclub was not established immediately but police suspect that it was sparked by an electric fault.
The club also has guest rooms that offer accommodation.
The guest rooms were fully occupied with 12 guests when the fire started at about 04:00 local time (01:00 GMT).
