The Moroccan security seized 2.23 tons of cannabis in the southwestern city of Agadir on Saturday, according to a police statement.

The banned substance was concealed in 112 packages in a truck, said the statement by the Moroccan police.
The international drug trafficking operation took place in a residential neighborhood in Agadir, the statement added.

The authorities arrested three suspects aged between 50 and 57, while relevant search operations led to the seizure of a car, another truck and 14 mobile phones.

Despite efforts to crack down on cannabis cultivation during the past decade, Morocco remains one of the world’s largest producers of the narcotic plant, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

The Moroccan security seized more than 112 tons of cannabis and its derivatives in 2019, official statistics showed.
