Angola registered a 2-1 win over Nigeria to secure third place at the 2019 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Both teams had to settle for the 3rd/4thplace playoff after losing to Cameroon and Guinea respectively on penalties in the semifinals.

Osvaldo Pedro Capemba opened the scoring for the Angolans on 27 minutes but Wisdom Ubani equalized for the Nigerians just three minutes later.

Zito Luvumbo restored the Angolans lead four minutes into the second half.

However, the Angolans gave themselves a lot to do after Porfirio Abrantes was sent off in the 58thminute for a second bookable offence.

Nigeria failed to capitalise on their one-man advantage allowing Angola to hold on for the win and claim third place.

By reaching the semifinals, Cameroon, Guinea, Nigeria and Angola qualified to represent Africa at the U-17 FIFA World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Brazil in November.

Cameroon will play Guinea in the final on Sunday, April 28.
