When compared with its eastern neighbor and African power house Nigeria, the West African nation of Benin is often overlooked because of it’s size.

Heavily dependent on subsistence agriculture and cotton production, Benin has for many decades battled poverty and unemployment.

But if newly elected President Patrice Talon has his way, all this could be about to change. After his election in early 2016, President Talon declared his mandate would be one of rapture, transition and reform; through these he aims to transform Benin to compete with its neighbors.
