The Republic of Congo’s President Denis Sassou Nguesso has hailed the relations between his country and China, saying it has yielded fruitful results for the peoples of both countries.

In an interview with Xinhua news agency, Nguesso said Africa and China has partnered closely and there exists great potential and broad prospects for future cooperation.

He hailed his country’s ties with China that have spanned over half a century.

President Nguesso has visited China 14 times.

“Both sides are willing to cement cooperation with mutual benefits and implementing our comprehensive strategic partnership,” Nguesso said.

The Congolese president’s remarks come as China is gearing up to host the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) later this year, and he is expected to attend.

The Republic of Congo has enjoyed tremendous achievements in the course of its cooperation with China over the years, ranging from infrastructure to service delivery.

In his interview, Nguesso pointed out to the Chinese-built national road connecting the country’s capital Brazzaville and coastal business hub Pointe-Noir as “it is of immense economic, social and cultural importance and has promoted movement of people, goods.”

He said his government is now working to improve the business climate to create healthy competition and preparation for establishing a special economic zone in Pointe-Noire.

He urged Chinese companies to invest in the country.
