Built on the slopes of the famous Sahel Hills, Algiers is not only the capital city of Algeria, but also the largest city in the North African country.

The city extends for about10 miles, (16 kilometres) parallel to the Mediterranean Sea coast.

Algiers dates back to 1,000 years ago and is not home to a population of about three million people.

It was nicknamed al-Jazaʾir (islands) because of the many rock outcroppings in the bay.

Algiers’ residents majorly speak Berber, Arabic and French.

The Algerian capital is well known for conserving its traditional outlook while also allowing some modern influence.

Most of Algiers’ interesting scenes can be found in the old part of the city known as Casbah or Medina.

Most of the tourists that visit the city are impressed by the many old French buildings. The promenade along the seafront and the food also get good ratings.

Algiers remains chiefly a port for the import of raw materials, industrial goods, and general supplies as well as an administrative and financial centre.

Visitors can easily experience the rich culture of the Algerian people, and can get a taste of the delicious traditional Algerian food.

There are adequate facilities offering hospitality, making it easy for visitors to focus on enjoying all that the town has to offer without stressing over where to stay.
