Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Saturday answered questions about Taiwan-related issues after delivering a speech at this year’s Munich Security Conference.

Wang said that Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times, it has never been a state and will never become a state, he added that “this is the real status quo of the Taiwan question and we are not the ones who want to change this status quo, but the ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces.”

“To maintain peace across the Taiwan Strait, we must resolutely oppose ‘Taiwan independence’ and resolutely maintain the one-China principle; this is also a consensus in the international community,” Wang stressed.

He went on to say that all parties have emphasized the need to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity on the Ukraine issue. He called for adherence to this principle on the Taiwan question and avoidance of double standards.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, arrived in Munich on Friday after his visits to France and Italy earlier this week. He will continue his visits to Hungary and Russia after the stop in Germany.
