Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang says that the African Centres for Disease Control and Prevention Headquarters Project is a flagship project of cooperation with Africa announced by President Xi Jinping at the 2018 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing.
He spoke on Wednesday at a ceremony to mark the completion of the construction project in Addis Ababa. He said it is another landmark following the completion and opening of the China-aided African Union headquarters. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, China and the AU have overcome difficulties and achieved the finishing of the project ahead of schedule, creating new highlights in China-Africa cooperation.
Qin said that the timely and high-quality delivery of the headquarters building to African friends reflects the high standard and high level of China-Africa cooperation, and shows the Chinese manner of keeping promises, being efficient and pragmatic.
It is believed that with the joint efforts of both China and Africa, the African CDC will surely make greater contributions to Africa’s health cause and people’s health and well-being, and write a new chapter in the history of China-Africa relations.
Qin emphasized that China has never made “empty promises”, and never forced others to do things against their will.
“We will successfully hand over the headquarters of the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention to African friends, and the African Union will have full authority to operate and manage it. If the African side needs our help, we will do our best to continue to provide support and assistance,” Qin said. “The headquarters of the African CDC stands majestically behind us. This is a great monument built by brothers and sisters from China and Africa with their traditional friendship and hard work. It tells the world an irrefutable fact that China has always supported Africa with practical actions, and that the future of China-Africa relations will be even brighter.”
