5 killed in al-Shabaab attack on African Union forces in Somalia

At least five soldiers were killed and several injured in a roadside blast targeting African Union forces in Somalia on Saturday.

A convoy of African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) hit a landmine on the outskirts of Marka, the provincial capital of the southwestern Lower Shabelle region.

The five soldiers killed were Ugandans serving in the AU mission, according to local media reports.

Officials in the region confirmed the attack but did not specify the number of casualties. The AU mission is yet to comment on the incident.

The al-Shabaab terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
