Libya parliament speaker submits papers to stand in presidential vote

Aguila Saleh, the speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, submitted papers on Saturday to stand in presidential elections.
“I came today to the headquarters of the High Elections Commission in Benghazi to submit the required documents for the nomination to the position of president of the Libyan Republic”, he said on Libya Votes TV.
Saleh announced on Wednesday that he is running for president during the upcoming elections, scheduled for December 24.
He made the announcement during a televised speech, where he stressed his respect for “the constitutional declaration and the independence of the judiciary.”
