The Zambian government on Saturday assured citizens living in the diaspora who would like to get dual citizenship that it will expedite the process following complaints.

Zambia introduced dual citizenship requirement following the amendment of the country’s constitution in 2016.

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jacob Mwiimbu said the government was putting in place measures that would expedite the application process.

The Zambian minister said the government was concerned with the slow process of acquiring dual citizenship, adding that the government was aware of the concerns expressed by citizens in the diaspora concerning the delays.

The delays, he said, would soon be a thing of the past as government was making arrangements to enable citizens process their application from some of the country’s embassies abroad.

According to him, the government was also considering the option of using online platforms to ease the challenges and assured that the government will soon put in place measures in the coming weeks to lessen the inconvenience.
