The army and the UN peacekeeping force in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) said Friday that they have killed 45 Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.
The joint force of the DRC army and the UN Organization Stabilization Mission (MONUSCO) forces said the rebels were killed in an operation to flush them out in North Kivu province.
DRC commander Brig. Gen. Sylvain Ekenge said in a statement that the bodies of the rebels were found during an offensive operation by the army and rapid intervention forces of MONUSCO.
“[Forty-five] ADF bodies have been found in the two positions of Hedge 1 and Hedge 11. This operation will continue unabated,” he said,
The two forces launched offensives against ADF positions since last Sunday following continuous attacks by the rebels on civilians and killings in big numbers.
