Kenya received a consignment of 410,000 AstraZeneca vaccines from the UK at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday, in yet another boost to ongoing efforts to vaccinate its adult population, the ministry of health announced.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi who received the consignment at the airport, said the donation will go a long way towards bolstering Kenya’s journey towards realizing herd immunity.
“Our capacity for vaccine deployment remains robust. As is common knowledge our efforts have been greatly affected by supply constraints. When we receive donations like these from friends & well-wishers, it’s a deserved shot in the arm for our vaccination efforts,” Dr.Mwangangi said.
Britain said on Wednesday it was offering 817,000 coronavirus vaccine doses to Kenya, as it rolls out a promised 100 million jabs for global distribution by next June.
