The number of COVID-19 infections in Botswana surpassed the 100,000 mark on Monday even as the country continues efforts to contain the pandemic.

The Southern African country’s health ministry reported 3,897 new cases from tests conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 102,124.

The country’s total number of deaths currently stands at 1,485.

The government last week urged all citizens to abide by the laid out COVID-19 protocols in order to curb further spread of the virus.

In addition to the protocols, a nationwide vaccination campaign is currently underway. So far, 209,980 people have received at least one jab, 121,518 of whom have taken both of the life-saving shots.

Health authorities have also warned against use of non-authorized medication in the treatment of COVID-19.
