The Chinese government on Friday donated 470,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Nigeria to bolster the West African country’s fight against the virus.
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, delivered the donation to the Nigerian Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, in the country’s administrative capital, Abuja.
“COVID-19 is a health issue. We need cooperation. We need unity to overcome COVID-19,” Jianchun said after handing over the vaccines.
Nigeria rolled out its COVID-19 vaccination campaign in March, and has vaccinated more than 3.9 million people.
By Saturday, the country had recorded 170,623 infections with 2,131 deaths.
