The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Saturday called on the Libyan authorities to investigate the kidnapping of Siham Sergewa, a member of the Libyan House of Representatives (parliament).
“Today marks 2 years of the violent abduction and enforced disappearance of Member of Parliament, Siham Sergewa, from her home in Benghazi. UNSMIL renews its calls on national authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter to establish her fate and whereabouts and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” UNSMIL said in a statement.
Abduction and enforced disappearance of Sergewa, as well as hundreds of individuals, constitute a serious violation of Libya’s obligations under international humanitarian and human rights laws, the statement said.
In July 2019, unidentified gunmen kidnapped Sergewa from her home in Benghazi, took her to an unknown location and injured her husband.
