Egypt reports 409 new COVID-19 cases, 31 deaths

Egypt on Saturday confirmed 409 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total number up to 280,005, Ministry of Health spokesperson Khaled Megahed said.

According to the spokesperson, the death toll in the country stands at 16,062, after 31 more patients succumbed to the virus.

438 patients recovered and were discharged from at isolation hospitals, raising Egypt’s total number of fully-recovered cases to 209,395.

Doctors and officials continue to warn the public to abide by coronavirus precautionary measures and push for vaccination, stating that social distancing is just as important as wearing a mask.

According to a report by local publication Egypt Independent, as of mid-May 1.3 million people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus since the vaccination campaign began on January 24, and over five million have registered on the ministry’s website for the jab
