Faced with the new realities of social isolation and massive job losses; in the midst of a global health emergency, millions of people are struggling to adapt and have slipped into anxiety, fear, anger & depression. Health care professionals & researchers have recorded spikes in mental health problems since the outbreak of COVID-19. The WHO says that fear, worry & stress are normal human responses to perceived or real threats such as the coronavirus pandemic, which the world has battled for nearly two years. Experts now warn that there could be a looming mental health crisis that could linger on long after the pandemic. So what impact has COVID-19 had on the mental well-being of people, particularly here in Africa? And what interventions can be put in place to prevent another potential health crisis?
