Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur made a winning start to the grass court season with a straight sets win against Caty McNally in their Round of 32 clash of the WTA Birmingham Classic on Tuesday.
Jabeur, seeded second in the tournament, defeated the American 6-4, 6-2 in just over an hour.
Jabeur put in a strong performance hitting four aces and winning 87 percent of her first serve points in addition to not facing a single break point from her opponent.
Jabeur will next face Canadian teenager Leylah Annie Fernandez. The world number 24 is the highest seed remaining in the tournament following the shock defeat of Elise Mertens by Alja Tomljanovic.
The Birmingham Classic is one of a number of warm-up tournaments for Wimbledon, the year’s third Grand Slam, which will be held between June 28 and July 11.
