The ministry of health stated that this initiative is part of a medical exchange program between Kenya and Cuba.

Kagwe is on a three-week visit to Cuba to learn more about the country’s world-class primary health care delivery model, and its highly successful programme to combat malaria.

Kenya is looking to improve and strengthen Kenya’s primary healthcare system as a catalyst to achieving universal healthcare.

The medical relationship between the two countries dates back to 2018. In that year, Cuba sent 101 medical specialists to Kenya as part of a bilateral accord. In June 2020, 20 Cuban doctors arrived in Nairobi to assist local health officials in battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
