Tunisian tennis trailblazer Ons Jabeur continued her quest for a maiden WTA title by progressing to the Round of 32 at the Mutua Madrid Open with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Yaroslava Shvedova.

Jabeur made a nervy start dropping serve in the first game of the first set but she then broke Shvedova’s serve twice in the next three games to take a 3-1 lead.

Though Jabeur dropped serve in the fifth game to allow Shvedova back in the game at 3-2, she then stepped up her game, breaking serve twice more to eventually win the first set 6-2.

Despite finishing the first set strongly, the world number 25 began the second set just as he did the first one: dropping serve in the very first game.

She then broke back immediately to make it 1-1 and the set went with serve until Jabeur secured a crucial break of serve in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead.

From there, she held her nerve converting her second match point to claim the set 6-3 and with it the match.

Jabeur will next face former U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens for a chance to advance to the last 16.
