African leaders mourn the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip

Leaders from across Africa continue to send their tributes following the passing on of Prince Philip, who passed on Friday morning at Windsor Castle aged 99.

In his message of condolence and comfort to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Royal Family, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the British people, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta said the Duke of Edinburgh has been a global unifying factor.

“His Royal Highness Prince Philip has been a towering symbol of family values and the unity of the British people as well as the entire global community. Certainly, we mourn a great man who cherished and worked for peaceful co-existence of the human race,” President Kenyatta said.

The President said he received the news of the death of Prince Philip with great sorrow and a deep sense of loss saying the People and the Government of the Republic of Kenya stands in solidarity with the Royal Family, the United Kingdom and the world in mourning the departed monarch.

Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania also said, “On behalf of the Government and the People of the United Republic of Tanzania, i convey my heartfelt condolences to you Your Majesty and through you to the People of the United Kingdom following the sudden demise of Prince Phillip.

We stand with you during this difficult time of loss and mourning. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Amen.”

Somalia President Mohamed Farmaajo tweeted saying, “The government and people of Somalia express their condolences to the British people on the death of Prince Philip. He led an extraordinary life of service and had a huge impact on British society. The Somali people stand with the United Kingdom which is a true ally and friend”
