Tunisian epidemiological situation “dangerous”: ministry

Tunisian scientific committee for the fight against the coronavirus described the epidemiological situation in Tunisia as “dangerous” due to the speedy increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, Tunis Afrique Presse reported on Monday.

The contamination by COVID-19 has increased by 22.9 percent, it said.

Since the start of the national vaccination campaign against the coronavirus on March 13, a total of 88,543 Tunisians have received their first doses of the vaccine, according to figures from the Ministry of Health published on Monday.

A total of 855,943 people have already registered on the evax vaccination platform.

Tunisian Health Ministry on Sunday night reported 1,709 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections in the country to 260,044. The death toll from the virus rose by 34 to 8,965.

The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients reached 1,480, including 352 in intensive care units, while the total number of recoveries reached 219,035, it added.
