At least ten people have been reported dead in Mumbai, India, after a fire broke out at a mall in Bhandup, Mumbai.
The mall is home to a private hospital that treated coronavirus patients.
More than 70 patients with COVID-19 infections were evacuated to other centres, local civic officials said. Officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray has directed that fire safety checks be done in malls or other structures across the state where hospitals are being set up for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
He also stated that strict action will be taken against all those responsible for negligence and delay in this regard.
Mumbai is struggling through the worst phase of its COVID-19 pandemic and reported more than 5,500 cases in a day on Thursday, its highest number since the outbreak began.
