The owners of a chemical tanker currently in the Gulf of Guinea say pirates stormed the vessel and kidnapped 15 crew members.
The Netherlands-based De Poli tanker company released a statement Friday morning saying a group of nine people attacked its tanker, Davide B” as it navigated the waters off the coast of Benin on Thursday.
“De Poli Shipmanagement are greatly concerned about the attack on its vessel and seafarers. The company’s main priority now is to establish contact with the missing crew in order to secure their earliest and safe release.”
The vessel has a crew of 21 personnel consisting of Ukrainian, Romanian, and Philippine nationals. De Poli confirmed that 15 members of the crew were taken. The remaining six are safe and remain onboard.
