Europa League draw: Manchester United to face AC Milan in Round of 16

The draw for the Round of 16 of this season’s UEFA Europa League was held on Friday in the Swiss city of Nyon.

There was no seeding or country protection for this round meaning teams from the same country could have been drawn against each other.

Manchester United will face Italian giants AC Milan in the last 16 of the Europa League, while Arsenal have been drawn to play Olympiakos. /VCG

The tie of the round will see English side Manchester United face Italian giants AC Milan. The game will see Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic come up against his former side with whom he won the competition in 2017.

Another standout tie of the round will see AS Roma face off against 2009 champions Shakhtar Donetsk. The highlight of this match sees Roma manager Paulo Fonseca on the other side of the dugout against his old club with whom he enjoyed a highly successful three-season spell before he joined the Italians.

2019 runners-up Arsenal were drawn against Olympiakos in a repeat of last season’s Round of 32 match, which saw the Greek club dump the English side out of the competition on the away goals rule.

Runaway Scottish Premier League leaders Rangers, finalists in 2008, will face Czech giants Slavia Prague, conquerors of Leicester City in the previous round.

Reigning Dutch champions Ajax, who lost the 2017 final to United, will play Swiss champions Young Boys while Dynamo Kiev will play Villarreal.

Granada of Spain will hope to continue their fine European form against Molde of Norway Dinamo Zagreb tackles Tottenham Hotspur, who are managed by Jose Mourinho, a two-time winner of the competition (Porto in 2003 and Manchester United in 2017).

The first and second legs of the round are scheduled to be played on March 11 and 18, respectively.
