A plane belonging to the Nigerian military crashed near the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in the capital Abuja after reporting an engine failure, Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika confirmed.
“A military aircraft King Air 350 has just crashed short of our Abuja runway after reporting engine failure enroute Minna,” Sirika tweeted on Sunday.
According to Sirika, the crash appeared to be “fatal” but he did not give any specifics of fatalities or injuries.
He added that the military had commenced an investigation into the incident and appealed for the public to remain calm.
