Three Nigerian police officers died and 10 others were injured on Wednesday in an accident in the country’s southeast region.

The accident occurred while the officers were returning from a “peace-keeping mission” after a communal crisis in Ezza-Effium, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state, the police commissioner said.

The accident happened on the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway in the southeastern state of Ebonyi.

Officials say they will release further details of the incident later.
