Senegal’s Sadio Mané and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah were nominated for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2020 award.
The duo, who both play for English champions Liverpool, are the only Africans in the 11-man shortlist.
Mané won the FIFA Club World Cup and the Premier League with Liverpool, scoring 18 goals and adding seven assists in that league historic campaign.
Salah claimed similar honours with Liverpool in addition to winning the Adidas Golden Ball at the FIFA Club World Cup. He also scored 19 goals domestically as Liverpool ended its 30-year wait to win the league.
The others nominees are: Thiago Alcantara (Spain and Liverpool), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal and Juventus), Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium and Manchester City), Robert Lewandowski (Poland and Bayern Munich), Kylian Mbappe (France and Paris Saint-Germain), Lionel Messi (Argentina and Barcelona), Neymar (Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain), Sergio Ramos (Spain and Real Madrid) and Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands and Liverpool).
The list was put together by a panel of experts in men’s football based on their respective achievements during the period between July 20 2019 and October 7 2020.
Voting to decide the winner is equally weighted among fans, journalists, national team coaches and captains, with three finalists being shortlisted.
Three finalists will be announced at a later date, with all award winners revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Zurich on December 17 2020.
