Kidnapped Nigerian ruling party’s state chairman found dead

The kidnapped chairman of the Nigerian ruling All Progressives Congress in central north state of Nasarawa, Philip Shekwo, has been found dead, local police said Sunday.

State Commissioner of Police Bola Longe, who confirmed this to reporters in Lafia, the state capital, said the body of Shekwo was found not far from his house and has been transported to the Dalhatu Araf specialist hospital.

Shekwo was kidnapped in the late hours of Saturday at his residence in Lafia.

Banditry and kidnapping are on the rise in Nigeria’s north, particularly in the northwest state of Kaduna.
