Kenya’s nationwide death toll from the coronavirus pandemic rose to 1,154 on Tuesday after the Ministry of Health reported 24 more fatalities, a new highest single-day number of deaths.
The previous highest daily number of deaths was 21, which was reported on Thursday and Friday last week.
The ministry added that a total of 22 health care workers had also died from the disease since the country reported its first case in March.
“To date 2,108 healthcare workers who have tested positive for the virus, 1,074 males & 1,034 females. Unfortunately, we have also lost 22 healthcare workers since the pandemic struck. Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of all those who have lost their loved ones,” the ministry said in a statement.
The country’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 64,588 after 1,334 new cases, from a sample size of 7,162, were reported. The country has carried out a total of tests 753,959 tests.
The ministry also reported 436 new recoveries from the disease raising the total recoveries to 43,095. 297 of those recoveries were from the Home-Based Care Program, while 139 others were discharged from various hospitals.
