Nigerian police on Monday confirmed eight people were killed in an attack perpetrated by gunmen at a village in the northwestern state of Katsina.

The attack occurred late Sunday in Shau village of the Faskari local government area of the state, said Gambo Isah, a spokesman for the police in Katsina.

Isah said many houses were razed by the gunmen whose motive for the attack is unknown.

The police are combing the general area for the gunmen who fled the scene after perpetrating the dastardly act, the police officer added.
