The COVID -19 Pandemic continues to wreak unprecedented devastation across the world on populations, and also on healthcare systems and economies. As governments continue to ramp up efforts to stem the pandemic, one area of concern has been in providing adequate food for people around the world. The enforced limitations on movement have impacted our ability to grow and transport food, already leading to shortages in some areas.
This is of no greater concern than in Africa. The United Nations estimates that over 40 % of people live below the poverty line, with food insecurity and hunger on the rise across the continent.
This week, we look at the impact of COVID 19 on food security in Africa, and explore some possible solutions to ensuring adequate food is available during and after the pandemic.
