Minister of Health Dr. Eteni Longondo of the Democratic Republic of the Congo confirmed on Tuesday the first positive case of corona-virus in the capital Kinshasa.
This brings the number of countries in Sub-Saharan Africa hit by the epidemic to seven.
The patient is said to be a Belgian citizen who has been placed in quarantine after testing positive at the airport in the capital Kinshasa, according to the health minister.
“What I’d like to tell people is not to panic,” he said.
The country’s first corona-virus case comes as its long-running Ebola epidemic appears to be subsidizing.
The last patient being treated for Ebola was discharged on March 3 -the first time there have been no active cases since the outbreak was declared in August 2018.
