A man escaped with major injuries after a crocodile attacked him while fishing in a Zimbabwean lake at night.
The unidentified 31-year-old was attacked from behind by the reptile, suffering significant tissue loss on his right leg.
He also has one of his fingers bitten in half as he struggled to free himself from the tight grip of the crocodile’s jaws.
The man had gone fishing with a friend in Lake Chivero located some 35 kilometers from the capital, Hararee.
The crocodile attacked when they were knee-deep in the waters trying to catch fish.
After his lucky escape, the man went to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare where doctors had to perform a skin graft procedure to fix his wound.
Crocodiles are semiaquatic reptiles that largely live on fish, but can eat any flesh they can find, including grazing animals and birds.
The reptiles kill their prey by drowning them then tear them into swallowable chunks before eating them.
