Sudan’s new Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok is delaying the naming of his cabinet as deliberations over the nominees continue.

Hamdok was scheduled to announce the cabinet nominees on Wednesday from a list of candidates given by the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) in line with timelines spelled out in a deal signed by the opposition alliance and the transitional military council.

There was no mention on when the new cabinet would be announced.

Hamdok on Tuesday received the list of nominees for ministers provided by the FFC adding that it included 49 nominees for 14 ministries.

Hamdok pledged to consider women for a fair number of roles in the transitional government. He also promised he would select technocrats based on their competence.

However, the interior and defense ministers will be chosen by the military members of Sudan’s sovereign council.
