At least 15 bodies were recovered from the scene of a boat accident that happened in Lagos on Saturday, Nigerian authorities announced.
The boat, which had 21 people on board, was travelling from Ajah on Lagos Island to Ikorodu on the mainland when it capsized at around 8.30p.m.
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said that it suspects that the vessel capsized due to overloading adding that the boat “was overturned by the heavy current”.
According to LASEMA, rescue operations are on going to recover the missing bodies.
The authorities however did not say if the captain of the boat was one of those confirmed dead or if the company that operated the vessel will face prosecution.
