China’s Hunan province is set to host the first ever first China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, a perfect pick for a host for the important forum.
The trade fair is scheduled to be held between June 27-29 in Changsha, the capital of Central China’s Hunan province, with various conferences, forums and exhibitions lined up.
Over 1,300 guests and traders from 52 African countries had already signed up for the expo as of May 24, signaling the importance of the fair in the Sino-African economic relations.
The China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo was proposed in the discussions at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and is establish a new mechanism for economic and trade cooperation between China and African countries.
Ahead of the forum, here’s a brief feel of the host province, Hunan.
Birth place of Mao Zedong
Hunan is the home province of Mao Zedong, the founder of New China. It is therefore seen as an important part of China’s reform and opening up, which has led to the significant development the Asian country has enjoyed in 41 years.
Hunan province is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in South Central China; it borders the province-level divisions of Hubei to the north, Jiangxi to the east, Guangdong and Guangxi to the south, Guizhou to the west, and Chongqing to the northwest. It covers an area of 211,800km2 and has a population of over 73 million.
Hunan province boasts of a rich culture, and is where the mausoleums of Yan Emperor and Shun Emperor, the ancestors of the Chinese people, lie.
The province boasts of splendid mountains and rivers. With abundant places of interest, it is a famous tourist destination for both Chinese and foreign tourists.
Hunan also has numerous heroes and talents who have over the years played an integral part in nurturing China-Africa relations.

The province is also home to numerous industrial innovation ventures. A large number of world-class scientific and technological achievements have been made in super computers, super hybrid rice, super high-speed train and much more. Hunan also has three trillion-level industries, namely equipment manufacturing, agricultural product processing and material, as well as eleven 100-billion-level industries.
Hunan is increasingly seeing an gradual rise in foreign contact, bolstering its economic output. The province has established economic and trade contact with over 180 countries and areas worldwide.
In 2018, the GDP of Hunan was 3.6425 trillion RMB, ranking eighth in China. The total export-import volume was 307.95 billion RMB, and the actual applied foreign direct investment clocked 16.19 billion dollars.
Still in 2018, 86 new enterprises in foreign investment were set up, with an actual foreign direct investment of 1.667 billion dollars. By the end of the year, 172 of the Fortune Global 500 Enterprises had established branches in Hunan.
The inaugural China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo will be held under the theme “Win-Win Cooperation for Closer China-Africa Economic and Trade Partnership”
